Area: Fort Valley β†’ Lane Orchards β†’ Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge β†’ Juliette
Time: 4–7 hours
Difficulty: Easy (graded dirt roads + paved scenic highways)

πŸ“ Start: Lane Southern Orchards

Task 1 β€” Peach State Kickoff πŸ‘
Take a photo of your Jeep with the orchard rows or red barn.

Task 2 β€” Hood Snack Shot
Buy something peach-themed (ice cream, cider, fried pie).
Snap a photo of it on your hood with the orchard behind you.

Stop before leaving town:

Enter the refuge and drive designated gravel roads.
Take a Jeep-in-the-longleaf-pines photo.

Task 5 β€” Wildlife Watch
Photograph deer, turkey, birds β€” or capture a scenic dirt road tunnel shot.

Task 6 β€” Steward Moment
Pick up at least 3 pieces of trash at a pull-off.

Find the railroad depot area downtown.

🏁 Finish

Snap a final photo of your Jeep in downtown Juliette with the river or depot in the background.

Directions for Challenge #12

ROUTE PLAN: Lane Orchards β†’ Fort Valley β†’ Piedmont NWR β†’ Juliette

START: Lane Southern Orchards
Address: 50 Lane Rd, Fort Valley

STOP 1: Downtown Fort Valley
From Lane Orchards, turn RIGHT onto US-341.
Drive approximately 5 miles north into downtown Fort Valley.

STOP 2: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge
From Fort Valley, take GA-49 north.
Turn LEFT onto GA-18 toward Juliette.
Watch for refuge signage and enter via Round Oak-Juliette Road.
Explore designated gravel roads only.

STOP 3: Juliette
Exit refuge toward Juliette Road.
Follow signs into downtown Juliette (approximately 10–15 minutes).
Park near the depot and river bridge area.

Optional STOP 4: Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park
From Juliette, take GA-87 south toward Macon (about 25 minutes).
Climb the Great Temple Mound and capture a final scenic photo.

Trail Notes

β€’ Refuge roads are easy gravel but can become slick after rain.
β€’ Stay on marked refuge roads β€” no off-trail driving.
β€’ Cell service may be limited inside the refuge.
β€’ Best seasons: Spring blooms, summer peach harvest, fall colors.
