ROUTE PLAN: Acworth β†’ Unknown Hero Grave β†’ Allatoona Pass β†’ Cooper’s Furnace β†’ Etowah β†’ Red Top Mountain

START: Downtown Acworth (Main Street / Depot Park)

Begin in the historic downtown core.

STOP 1: Grave of Unknown Hero

  1. Head north on Main Street. 
  2. Turn LEFT onto US-41 N (Cobb Pkwy). 
  3. Continue approx. 3.3 miles. 
  4. Turn RIGHT onto GA-92 / Lake Acworth Drive. 
  5. Drive approx. 0.5 miles, then LEFT onto Old Allatoona Road SE. 
  6. Continue approx. 1.5 miles to grave site. 

STOP 2: Allatoona Pass Battlefield Trailhead

Address: 640 Old Allatoona Rd SE

  1. Continue north on Old Allatoona ~0.2 mile. 
  2. Trailhead lot is on LEFT. 

STOP 3: Cooper’s Furnace Day-Use Area

Address: 1052 Old River Rd SE

  1. Continue north; road curves into Allatoona Dam Road SE. 
  2. Follow signs toward Allatoona Dam. 
  3. Turn RIGHT onto Old River Road SE. 
  4. Drive approx. 1 mile into furnace site. 

STOP 4: Etowah Indian Mounds

Address: 813 Indian Mounds Rd, Cartersville

  1. Exit back toward dam road. 
  2. Turn RIGHT onto Allatoona Dam Rd SE β†’ US-41 N. 
  3. Turn LEFT onto Grassdale/ Riverside Road. 
  4. After 0.8 mile, RIGHT onto Indian Mounds Road. 
  5. Continue to entrance. 

STOP 5: Red Top Mountain State Park

Address: 50 Lodge Rd SE, Acworth

  1. Depart back toward US-41 S. 
  2. Turn RIGHT onto US-41. 
  3. Drive approx. 5.3 miles. 
  4. Turn LEFT onto Red Top Mountain Rd SE. 
  5. Drive approx. 1.8 miles to scenic pull-offs or Visitor Center. 

Directions for Challenge #6

ROUTE PLAN: Jasper β†’ Talking Rock β†’ Old Whitestone β†’ FS 28-1 β†’ Nature Park β†’ Vineyard β†’ Downtown Jasper

START: JAX Coffee / Jasper Outpost 515

Turn RIGHT onto N Main Street heading south.

STOP 1: Pickens County Courthouse

Address: 141 N Main St

  1. Continue straight; courthouse appears on LEFT. 

STOP 2: Woodbridge Inn

Address: 44 Chambers St

  1. Continue north to Goble Street. 
  2. Turn RIGHT onto Goble. 
  3. Turn LEFT onto N Ward. 
  4. Turn RIGHT onto Chambers; Inn on RIGHT. 

STOP 3: Downtown Talking Rock

General Center: 4504 Hwy 136 W

  1. Continue north as N Main becomes Talking Rock Rd. 
  2. Drive approx. 5.5 miles. 
  3. Parking area on RIGHT. 

STOP 4: Old Whitestone Road Loop

  1. Continue north out of Talking Rock. 
  2. After approx. 3 miles, turn RIGHT onto Old Whitestone Road East. 
  3. Run gravel loop; return either direction. 

STOP 5: Forest Service Road 28-1

  1. Return to Hwy 136 heading east. 
  2. After approx. 2.2 miles, FS 28-1 entrance on RIGHT. 
  3. Drive until loopable or conditions change. 

STOP 6: Talking Rock Nature Park

Address: 4633 Hwy 136 W

  1. Return west ~2 miles; entrance on LEFT. 

STOP 7: Sharp Mountain Vineyards

Address: 110 Rathgeb Trail

  1. Continue back to Hwy 515. 
  2. Turn LEFT toward Jasper. 
  3. Turn RIGHT onto Philadelphia Road. 
  4. Turn LEFT onto Rathgeb Trail. 

FINISH: Downtown Jasper Return

Reverse route back via GA-515 β†’ N Main Street.
