Task 1 β€” Gold Rush Kickoff
Take a photo of your Jeep at the Gold Museum or Dahlonega square.

Task 2 β€” River Edge Stop
Take a tire-level photo at the riverside pull-off near Camp Wahsega.

Task 3 β€” FS Road Discovery
Drive a section of FS 28-1 or nearby Bull Mountain roads (easy gravel).

Barefoot Mountain Coffee β€” Gravel parking, scenic rural stop.

Task 4 β€” Mountain Overlook Photo
Stop at the overlook and capture a ridge-top Jeep photo.

Task 5 β€” Steward Moment
Pick up at least 3 pieces of trash at an overlook or pull-off.

Task 6 β€” AT Marker Mission
Find the AT plaque or boot tree at the breezeway.

Mountain Crossings Outfitters β€” Stickers, patches, hot drinks.

Snap a final photo under the breezeway of the stone building.


 

Directions for Challenge #1

ROUTE PLAN: Dahlonega β†’ Camp Wahsega Road β†’ FS 28-1 β†’ Woody Gap β†’ Neels Gap

START: Dahlonega Gold Museum (Downtown Dahlonega)

Address: 1 Public Square, Dahlonega
Begin on the historic downtown square.

STOP 1: Camp Wahsega Road

  1. From the Gold Museum, head north on GA-52/GA-9 (Morrison Moore Pkwy). 
  2. Turn RIGHT onto Camp Wahsega Road. 
  3. Continue approximately 6.5 miles. 
  4. Pass Camp Wahsega 4-H Center on right. 
  5. Road is paved, winding, scenic, and remote. 

STOP 2: FS Road 28-1 (Wahsega β†’ Cooper Gap Area)

  1. Continue past the 4-H Center until you see signage for FS 28-1. 
  2. Turn RIGHT onto FS 28-1. 
  3. Drive approximately 5 miles toward Cooper Gap. 
  4. Expect creek crossings, dense rhododendron tunnels, scenic ridge lines. 

Note:
FS 28-1 connects Camp Wahsega β†’ Cooper Gap β†’ Appalachian ridge networks.

STOP 3: Woody Gap (AT Vista Point)

Address: GA-60, Suches

  1. Continue on FS 28-1 until reaching Cooper Gap. 
  2. Follow signage directing toward Suches β†’ GA-60. 
  3. Turn LEFT onto GA-60. 
  4. Drive approximately 3.5 miles to reach Woody Gap. 
  5. Parking area, vault toilets, mountain views available.
     

STOP 4: Neels Gap / Mountain Crossings

Address: 12471 Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville

  1. From Woody Gap, continue north on GA-60 toward Blood Mountain. 
  2. Merge onto US-19/129 (via Turner's Corner or Suches). 
  3. Continue approximately 10 miles to Neels Gap. 
  4. Arrive at Mountain Crossingsβ€”the AT passes through the stone building.
